Introduction

What is Google My Business?

It’s how businesses can reach more customers through Google Search and Google Maps for free.

Google loves connecting customers with local businesses that sell the products and services they need … it’s literally what this search engine company tries to be the best at! A staggering 90% of all searches happen on Google because their team obsesses over giving people the answers they need.

(This is why you may have heard people say “let me Google that” when they’re looking for information before making a purchase … we trust Google to help us find our next favorite meal, a service provider we can trust, or a hot new shopping destination in our community.)

A few years ago, the search engine experts at Google realized that if they received more information from local businesses, they could offer more accurate, helpful recommendations to the people nearby. To gather this information, they created a powerful tool called Google My Business. This tool gives you, the business owner, the ability to take control of how your company is shown on platforms like Google Search and Google Maps.

In other words, Google My Business allows you to share seemingly small details that can impact your business in a big way! By claiming and optimizing your listing, you can stand out from the competition and reach new customers who are looking locally for great products and services.

Why is That Important?

Companies have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours building websites that they hope Google will show when someone searches for goods and services. Google My Business allows savvy businesses to save a ton of time and money and go right to where people are searching.

And unlike Google Ads, Google My Business is free.

Of course there’s no guarantee you’ll show up when you want to, but if you follow all the steps of our guide, you’ll have a much better chance at getting to the top of search pages, and you’ll be more rewarded for good customer service.

Is it Hard to Do?

Really? No. It’s not. But business owners are busy and there are a million things screaming for their attention at any given time and so many businesses just don’t get around to it. This is a big mistake!

Getting a basic profile up and running is easy, but it can be kind of confusing to know you are doing everything right. That’s where we come in.

We help to make sure you don’t miss something simple or waste time trying to figure out what to focus on. Then we provide guidance on how to do things like ask your customers for reviews, or enable business messaging so that prospects can message you without having to call. In our view, by working on your Business Profile over time, you’ll build up a valuable asset for your business because you will stand out in local searches.

So What’s Next?

Nothing! You’re ready to go. The first thing we need to figure out is whether or not you have already registered your business with Google My Business.

To do this, you or someone in your business would need to have “claimed” the business through Google. If you know you are already registered an have a profile, then you can continue to step 2, how to add information about your business.

If you need to register, go to Step 1.
